Introduction to ITO Film and Touch Technology

Indium tin oxide (ITO) is a ternary composition of indium, tin and oxygen in varying proportions. It is transparent and colorless in thin layers.

ITO is one of the most widely used transparent conducting oxides because of its electrical conductivity and optical transparency. It can be deposited as a thin film easily, and its chemical resistance to moisture is pretty good.

As with all transparent conducting films, a compromise must be made between conductivity and transparency, since increasing the thickness and increasing the concentration of charge carriers increases the film's conductivity, but decreases its transparency.

The touch panel technology is quite diverse, and can be divided into capacitive, infrared, ultrasonic, resistive, electromagnetic, and image sensing types according to different sensing principles.

Among them, the resistive and capacitive markets are relatively large, and they are also the main products that Topnano Corp. chooses to produce.

Resistive Touch
Resistive touch technology is commonly used in industrial touch panels, ATM machines, and payment machines in parking lots.

Resistive touch panels are covered by two layers of transparent electrode film separated by spacers. This pressure-based input method means that resistive panels can be operated with any type of touch, including finger, stylus, and even gloved touch.

Resistive touch screens are generally single-point-touch displays and are typically less than 20 inches in size.

Capacitive Touch
Capacitive touch is the most commonly used touch technology for smartphones and Tablet PC.

Capacitive touch is typically used on smaller touchscreens and is known for highly precise touch recognition and speedy response times.

Unlike resistive touch technology, capacitive touch panels can be interacted with fingers or a capacitive stylus, but cannot be touched with gloves.

It has the best user experience and support for multi-touch.
